If you've been reading our blog since at least March, you'll know that we got a new car this year. It was a beautiful, cheap, reliable car. I say 'was' because our poor Corolla is no more.
Haha, as if the back was the worst...check out the front:
Now for the story. I got a call early Monday morning from Christy. She got in an accident on I-15 near Point of the Mountain when the car in front of her suddenly stopped. According to her, she saw the car stop, realized she couldn't swerve into another lane because the other lanes were still flowing smoothly, and then slowed down as much as possible (the rain certainly didn't help, I'm sure). The police estimated that she hit the car in front of her going 30 mph.
When it was all said and done, there was a 4 car pile up with the Corolla smashed in at #3. Christy said she was okay, but just to make sure the baby was okay, she went to the hospital (her mom picked her up while I met them there - thanks to Rob Sanders for the ride). Fortunately, all of the humans involved were okay. Unfortunately, our car was not.
But the story has a happy ending. I just got off with the insurance company and the car appraised at $4300! Take out our $500 deductible and we just got $800 more for the car than we paid for it. Not too bad of an investment (although it would make a very dangerous investment strategy). However, we have lost a dear friend. Farewell, Corolla.
Oh - and we're in the market now, so if you know of any cheap cars, send them our way. We're borrowing my parents' VERY old car in the meantime and we are eager to get rid of it.
Sorry about your car. Glad that Christie and the baby are okay. The state sells their surplus cars for quite cheap and they are all well maintained. http://fleet.state.ut.us/surplus/
ReplyDeleteMy car enjoyed having a brother and is sad to know he's gone. But at least he died honorably in the line of duty.
